Statistics indicate that over 40 million homes in America have at least one feline companion. Some say the number of cats in homes today tops 80 million. And yet tragically, over 4 million cats and kittens are turned in to animal shelters each year.
Late spring and early summer is known as "breeding season" by animal shelter personnel. It is definitely the time of year when the majority of young adn newborn kittens, many along with their mothers, are turned in to shelters as homeless.
It is for this very reason that June has been tabbed as "Adopt a Cat Month" by the American Humane Association. Most shelters and adoption agencies are wall to wall with felines in need of a special home. If you are looking for that special addition to your family, and would like to give a feline or two a home, now may be the time.
If now is not the ideal time, please consider a financial contribution or even a donation of pet food, toys, towels or other "wish list" needs at Suncoast Humane Society or a pet adoption agency of your choice. This is definitely an opportunity for you to help make a difference.
