Off-site adoptions are a success

When the Suncoast Humane Society initiated its satellite feline adoption program, the plan was to establish permanent, off-site adoption centers in the different communities served by the organization. The intent was to make adopting a pet more convenient for those not living close to the society's Animal Care Center, and to help more homeless animals find forever homes.

Doesn't it just tear your heart out to watch the television commercials that feature neglected and abused dogs and cats? The national animal welfare organizations that sponsor these ads provide music and lyrics that get you all choked up, as a celebrity or the organization's representative describes the horrors these poor animals are facing. Over the holidays, many of the commercials even used Christmas music as a touching theme.

Adoptathon a huge success

Fifty-one cats, 33 dogs, and even two ferrets and a hamster enjoyed Christmas and New Year's with new loving family members, thanks to Suncoast Humane Society's "Home Before the Holidays Adoptathon." This unique adoptathon was a 20-day event featuring special adoption fees of $10, plus the date of the month.

Homeless animals have a wish list

It is wonderful to see that so many friends and donors of Suncoast Humane Society are finding ways to help homeless animals during this holiday season. Generous monetary donations generated from our recent holiday appeal letter help assure a positive start for our services and programs going into 2015.

Christmas gift ideas for your pet

What would your pet(s) like for Christmas? What would they most appreciate?

A new collar may be nice. One with their name and address is a good idea. Not that they would memorize it, but it may prove to be very helpful. Certainly a collar that allows the license and rabies tag to be attached would be safest, if he/she would accidentally venture out.
